Why Horton
We believe organizational excellence is only as strong as the human connections supporting it.
In a world that often prioritizes the what and the how, we focus on the who, the people, relationships, and experiences that shape how organizations work and move forward.
We meet teams exactly where they are, recognizing that meaningful organizational change doesn't happen through strategy alone. It happens when people have the clarity, connection, and capability to move forward together.
That’s where Horton comes in.
Meet Lanese Horton
Founder & Principal Consultant, Horton Strategic Learning
I’ve spent my career helping organizations navigate the human side of change, growth, and complexity.
My work has taken me across healthcare, public service, and organizational development, partnering with leaders and teams through change, strengthening organizational capability, and creating leadership and learning strategies that help people and organizations move forward.
My B.S. in Healthcare Management gave me a foundation in understanding how complex organizations operate. My M.S. in Human Resources deepened my focus on the people who make those organizations work. I am also pursuing doctoral studies in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, deepening my understanding of the science behind how people, work, and organizations intersect.
I’m naturally drawn to nuanced environments, the places where there isn’t an obvious answer and where understanding what’s happening beneath the surface matters just as much as the strategy itself.
Built From Experience
Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to lead organizational capability in complex environments, helping organizations grow, change, and become better equipped for what’s ahead.
But I’ve also experienced what happens when organizational progress comes at the expense of the people experiencing it.
Those experiences shaped how I believe organizations should lead.
I don’t believe we have to choose between accountability and compassion, or between progress and relationships. I believe we can challenge people to grow, hold high standards, and move organizations forward without losing sight of the humans doing the work.
That belief is at the heart of Horton Strategic Learning.
I built Horton to create a different kind of partnership, one that can step into complicated situations, tell the truth about what’s happening, and help organizations move forward while preserving the relationships that make sustainable progress possible.
People-first doesn’t mean progress-last.
